March Goals and February Recap

Even though February is a short month, it was a REALLY good one for me.  I met all my goals with gusto and I'm really pumped about this month's goals, too.  So, recapping February Goals:

Valentine's Day card completion for both kids.
Okay, well, I'm not sure if this was done with 'gusto' per se, but they were done without any whinging (I love this alternative for whining that I've picked up from a British friend) and even a little creativity on my daughter's behalf - she wanted to cut out her own construction paper hearts.

Run a smart 5K.
As already reported, this went over VERY well!

Get a haircut.
Ahhhh!  I go in cycles with my hair and the most fun is the chopping it all off phase.

I got so many lovely compliments on this, one of my most liked Instagram pictures.  Thank y'all, I'm pretty happy with the new 'do, too.

Hit my Hot Chocolate 15K/5K referral goal.
Best for last!!!  (Thank you to everyone who helped me spread the word and for putting up with Tweets and Facebook Posts on the reg from me about the free hat code.)  I earned myself another trip to a Hot Chocolate race of my choice!  I was going to go home again, and bring my son along to see Chicago.  Alas, that race is over Halloween weekend, which would not be feasible for MANY reasons.  But, I think it works out for the best because it's forcing my husband and I (and our extended family) to rally and make childcare happen for the two of us to take a trip.  This will be our first vacation together/alone in EIGHT YEARS - basically, since having kids.  We have worked out all of the logistics and are going to VEGAS.  And, if you know me, you know how FREAKING EXCITED I am to go back to one of my favorite places on earth.

I forgot to add 'run a smart 15K training run' to the list last month, but I did just that on Sunday.  I kept close to my long run pace on those hills for the Hot Chocolate Seattle race.  Recap soon, and thanks for the picture Stacie!

How can I top last month?  I don't know if that's possible, so I'm going to keep this list short!

March Goals

Run a smart half marathon.  Certainly a PR would be just lovely, but it is an A+++ goal.  My real goal (my 'B' goal) is to get it in under 2:10 and I think my fitness is there.  I've trained better for this half than... well, really any other half I've run: consistent intervals, good tempos, race pace runs (up to six miles at my half goal pace of 9:10), and multiple double digit runs.  The proverbial 'hay is in the barn.'  I just have to keep out of my head and not have the mental monkeys get the better of me.  Which is already happening because my kids seem to be getting the horrible cold my husband just had and now I'm freaking out: gee, I feel like I have an itchy throat/sinus headache/etc.  Fantastic!  Suffice it to say that I'm mainlining Emercen-C and washing my hands like a crazy person.

Recover and decide on a new running goal/plan.
I have the Brooks Trailhead coming up at the end of May, so it might be fun to make the 15K a goal race, but I'm not sure.  I do love having a plan and I have one for a fast 5K.  I've never actually followed a plan to train for a 5K, so that could be fun...

Read at least five books.
I've been going back to placing both physical and digital versions of books I want to read on hold at the library to see which comes in first.  Well when it rains, it pours.  I have four paper books and two ebooks in my possession that all have a fast approaching due date.  For whatever reason, I hate the idea of returning and putting another hold on them.  I'm weird like that.

  1. Sometimes I feel like if I return a book to the library before finishing them or even starting them that they aren't interesting enough to be put on hold again. If I am enjoying a book, I'd rather have overdue fees than wait to finish it.

Great job on the 15k! I have no doubt you can pull off your A++++ goal for the half marathon. You can do it!
