Friday Things

I was about to do my roundup of books I read in September yesterday and came to realize that I only read TWO.  I don't know how this happened...  My only explanation is that both were two of my least favorite of the year and I felt like I was kind of slogging through them.  I'll save my review for Ender's Game for next month, and I'll just link to the best 50 Shades reviews here for my review of the last book: Fifty Shades Freed.  The link above is for the first book, but they're all so funny (even if you never read, or don't ever plan to read, the books) and you can click on the link at the end to read each consecutive review.  They were fun, but I'm glad to be done and movin' on!

So, this happened on my long run today.

I went after getting an annual physical and didn't really think that my shots would be a problem.  Eeeeeek.  It was also a pretty crappy eight miles.   My leg/sciatic nerve pain is still somewhat present, but I wasn't feeling it as much because my quads were killing from yesterday's bootcamp class.  Isn't there something called the 'pain gate'?  That we can only feel one pain at a time?  Or something...?  Maybe I should go and break my finger before my next race...  No?  Plus it probably didn't help that I pretty much took a week off and didn't eat anything but a Z bar until just before my run because I had fast before my appointment...  Blargh.

Oh well, I have these in the oven and my house smells HEAVENLY.

And I have a fun new song (OF COURSE) to add to the playlist that popped up on my Pandora, that made my run (and my day) a little brighter.  Enjoy, and happy weekend!

    1. they turned out pretty good! I'm sure if I used butter instead of yogurt, they'd be even BETTER... ;)

  2. those muffins seriously look amazing! And, I am also not a fan of Ender's Game. My boyfriend loved it as a kid, so I tried to read it, thinking I might use it with some boys who don't love books at school, but I couldn't finish it. (I'm a huge believer in abandoning books... in fact, I also abandoned 50 Shades!)

Have you read Please Don't Come Back from the Moon by Dean Bokopolous? It's YA, and I teach it to my sophomores, and I. Love. It.

    1. I really need to be ok with putting a book down! I think the only one I ever did was Angela's Ashes - just too awful. I will put your YA one on my list; I just added The Wednesday Wars to my queue - have you read that one?

  4. Ouch, wait, did you get a shot, what happened to the arm? I enjoy reading your playlists, it helps me get new ideas - my playlist gets stale so quick! P.S. I think I may after all be sharing Spring marathon training with you (wishy washy, I know) ... I'm thinking to put that April marathon back in my schedule, go for both next year. More on it all later ;-)

    1. Yep, I had TWO shots actually! One arm was my annual flu shot, and the other I got an up to date whooping cough vaccine b/c we have a freaking epidemic here in WA. That's the one that bled thru the band aid on my run! crazy.
Good for you! You might as well keep it on the schedule and see how things go :)

  5. You didn't like Ender's Game?!! I'm so sad. But I listened to it on CD while cleaning the house, so the boring chores may have made it seem more interesting. I didn't finish the rest of the books though.

And I just saw your crock pot recipe, which I will for sure try.
