As I head off to help out at the Hot Chocolate 15K/5K booth for the Rock n' Roll Seattle Expo, I figured now was as good a time as any to share the deets for the upcoming season's freebie! I'm pretty excited about this one, since I wear my extra swag hat from FIVE seasons ago ALL. THE. TIME. Plus, I like the understated look:

Oiselle Tenacious Ten Race Discount Code!

Now that I have a few more deets, I thought I'd put up a post (complete with promo code!) for the TENACIOUS TEN

Y'all, Oiselle is finally sponsoring a race! After five years of being a part of this great team, I couldn't be more excited! And, there's a TEN MILE option - which I've always wanted to run. If this distance appeals to you, too, get registering soon: there are limited spots for the 10 mile race and, as of earlier this week, there were only about 40 left. Alas, I still have not rid myself of plantar fasciitis, so I won't be able to partake. However, there is a 10K option as well. I am doing a new treatment for my foot (which I may detail here once I'm done) and I'm hopeful that I'll be able to do 6.2 leisurely miles by April. I may just use the beginner training plan to ramp up my running. Thanks to the amazing Beth at Running Evolution, there is a personalized beginner training plan:
This is the new iteration of the Brooks Trailhead Run, formerly Emerald City Run, and before that - the Seattle's Best.  The start and finish of the race will take place at Gas Works Park, on Saturday, April 22nd. Yay a SATURDAY RACE!
can't beat the view from the start/finish
Both distances include a finishers medal, and forget about inevitably ill fitting shirts, everyone registering gets a TRUCKER HAT:

What: 10Mile, 10K, 1K kids race
When: Saturday, April 22nd (start time: 8AM )
Where: Gasworks Park (course maps here)
Register HERE and use code: READANDRUN17 for 10% off
Hope to see you there!  Prices go up on next Thursday, February 23rd, so register soon.

Hot Chocolate 15K/5K Seattle 2017 Coupon Code! (UPDATE for 2019)

**UPDATE FOR 2019: I'm not sure what it will be, but you can start using SEAANDREA19 for next year's free item!**

I'll have a post up with more details soon.

It's that time again!  Here's this season's Hot Chocolate 5K/15K Seattle code for a new extra swag item - and it's a GOOD ONE.

After two different years of hats, I'm pretty excited about a VISOR. So if you use code: SEATTLESWAG2 RAM Racing will add one to your already awesome goodie bag when you register for the Seattle 15K OR 5K.
Goodie Bag!
I'm also pretty excited about this much more neutral and sophisticated gray hoodie for the 2017 season. I've tried it on in person and it's super cozy, as well as much brighter looking than in the picture. Speaking of pictures, the race photos are FREE!

Also, the 15K medals are pretty darn cool, too! As always, they are city specific and now the circular part comes out and is a MAGNET. So if you are the type of person who has all their medals sitting in a box in the closet (guilty) this is a really easy and fun way to display your bling.

The race is Sunday, March 5th 2017 - perfect time of year for some hot chocolate. The folks at RAM Racing put a lot of thought, time and effort into choosing the hot cocoa and fondue - trust me.  And it is goooooood.

Hopefully I've tempted you to join in the fun and get yer free visor!  If not, here are my recaps from Seattle, Seattle AND Chicago. If you are not in the Seattle area, check out a Hot Chocolate race near you!

Atlanta
Chicago
Dallas
Denver
Minneapolis
Philadelphia
San Diego
Seattle
St. Louis
Nashville
Las Vegas
Tampa
Scottsdale

And, hey, once you've tackled 9.3 miles - you should TOTALLY run the Oiselle Tenacious TEN MILER on April 22nd! Or the 10K! Either way, use code READANDRUN17 for 10% off registration.

Snohomish River Run 2016 Discount Code!

For all my running friends, I have a new race discount code to share! 2016 will be the fifth year of the Snohomish River Run and I'm sure they'll be pulling out all the stops to mark the occasion, including my favorite perk - the post race hot soup and crusty bread! (Here are my recaps from 2012 and 2014.)

The course is flat, fast and USTAF Certified. Personalized bibs, race shirts and medals are given for both distances, 10K and half marathon. It starts and ends in Downtown Snohomish with plenty of parking nearby and at the local high school - one less thing to worry about on race day.

Hope to see you there!

Discount: READANDRUN16 for 15% off!
Where: Downtown Snohomish on 1st Avenue, between Avenue E and 2nd Street
When: Sunday, October 9th at 8:00 AM
Disclosure: I was offered race entries and a monetary reward in exchange for getting the word out about the race series; although it is sponsored, all opinions are my own.

Brooks Trailhead Race 2016 Discount Code

Time to share a new race discount code!  Well, the race isn't new - this will be the second year of the Brooks Trailhead Run and, once again, I'm happy the race director asked me to help get the word out about the race.

The start and finish of the race will take place at Gas Works Park, just a short walk from the Trailhead Store on Sunday, May 22nd.
can't beat the view from the start/finish
There is a 15K as well as a 10K option, and both distances are awarded medals.

If you're not sure about the half marathon distance, or want a nice little 9+ mile training run (perhaps a long run before the Seattle Rock n' Roll in June), a 15K is a GREAT option.  And I love a good 10K, too.

I enjoyed the race last year, but was a little skeptical of the parts of the course that went through alleyways and it looks as if they are working on changing that!  Yay!
Here are the deets:

Brooks Trailhead 10K & 15K (1K kids run): Sunday, May 22nd (start time TBD, was 8AM last year)
Where: Gasworks Park
Register HERE and use code: HALLBERG16BTH for 15% off (good thru March 6, then 10% off thereafter)

Hope to see you there!  Prices go up on March 1st and there are only 500 spots for the 15K, so register soon for the best deal.

Disclosure: I was offered a race entry in exchange for getting the word out about the race; although it is sponsored, all opinions are my own.

The Beats Half Marathon Discount Code!

Yep, ANOTHER discount code to share!  This is another new race that is being organized by the same folks at the Snohomish Running CompanyThe Beats Run will take place on July 26th, 2015 and this half marathon is all about the music.  There will be a DJ at each mile along the course, and given my taste for good EDM, I'm VERY excited to check this race out.  Plus it's at Marymoor Park in Redmond (great location for easy race logistics) and will have Nuun on course, just like my favorite half marathon!

They've announced the DJ for the post race party, who has a single signed to one of my favorite artist's labels (Tiesto).
From the race director: X-Vertigo, originally from France and residing in Los Angeles, has been without a doubt one of the biggest up and coming, electronic music artists of 2014. In 2013 alone he signed on 3 of the biggest labels in today's music industry. His single "Kings" was signed on Tiesto's Musical Freedom label and topped #18 on Beatport's Progressive chart. His second single "Dusk" was picked up by Armin Van Buuren's Armada/Trice recordings which topped at #48 and was part of the Armada "Best tracks of 2013" Compilation . Finally, Nervo & Ivan Van Gough ft Beverly Knight's "Not taking this no more"(X-VERTIGO vs Bass King remix) was signed by #1 Dutch label Spinnin' Records and stayed on the Electro House Top 100charts for nearly a month.  You can give a listen here.

They've begun announcing DJs for the course, and I'm pretty excited to run without headphones for 13.1.  So come on out and join in the fun!  Register here and use code: HALLBERG15 for 15% off registration.

Disclosure: I was offered a race entry in exchange for getting the word out about the race; although it is sponsored, all opinions are my own.

Brooks Trailhead 10K/15K Race Discount Code!

Yep, another discount code to share!  When it rains, it pours apparently.  I'm super lucky to have a relationship with the Snohomish Running Company: they are working with Brooks on their inaugural Trailhead Run and asked me to help get the word out about the race.  Now that Brooks has opened up new offices and the Trailhead Store across the street from the Burke-Gilman Trail, what better way to celebrate than with a run?

The start and finish of the race will take place at Gas Works Park, just a short walk from the Trailhead Store.  This race is the new incarnation of last year's Emerald City Run and before that, the Seattle's Best 15K.  Which I ran three years ago and can attest to the fact that it's a mostly flat course. (I'm excited to tackle that very short uphill/downhill portion again, now that I know what to expect!)
can't beat the view from the start/finish
If you're not sure about the half marathon distance, or want a nice little 9+ mile training run, a 15K is a great option.  And I love a good 10K, too.  Medals are awarded all finishers - 15K and 10K!  I am a HUGE fan of Brooks shoes, so a Brooks themed medal is very appealing.  Also appealing - a SATURDAY race.  Here are the deets:

Brooks Trailhead 10K & 15K (1K kids run): Saturday, May 30th 8AM
Where: Gasworks Park
Register HERE and use code: HALLBERG15 for 15% off (good thru May 1st!)

Disclosure: I was offered a race entry in exchange for getting the word out about the race; although it is sponsored, all opinions are my own.

Discount Code for the Everett Half, the Snohomish Women's Run AND the Snohomish River Run!

I have a new discount code to share with all my local peeps, and for anyone who might be visiting (or would like to visit) the lovely Pacific Northwest in 2015! Code: MRSHALLBERG will get you 10% off registration at any of the Snohomish Running Company races.

The first race in this series is the NEW Everett Half.  This is the former Heroes Half.  The date, course, and charity partner remain the same.  But, there's the added benefit of being able to register along with one or both of the other Snohomish races as a package deal.  Pretty sweet.

The other two events are lovely half marathon (or 10K) races along the Snohomish River.  The next one on the calendar is the Snohomish Women's Run, on May 17th.  This was a bust of a race for me last year, but everything else about it was great!  Plus, it looks as if they have moved the start/finish area to downtown Snohomish.  This was a welcome change to last year's River Run and it makes for much easier parking with no shuttles needed.

This year's Snohomish River Run is on October 11th, which I am super pumped to run for the third time. (Race recaps are here and here.)

If that's not enough, I'll be sharing yet another discount code for 15% off the new Brooks Trailhead Run!  Right now they have their own discount code going through the end of January, but you can certainly use my code right now, and it can be used all the way through the end of MAY. It's: HALLBERG15 and I'll go into some more detail on that race next month.

Disclosure: I was offered race entries and a monetary reward in exchange for getting the word out about the race series; although it is sponsored, all opinions are my own.

Snohomish River Run 2014 Discount Code!

Just wanted to get a quick post up about this discount code for all my local peeps (and for anyone who might be visiting/want to visit the lovely Pacific Northwest at the end of October) for a flat, fast and scenic half marathon or 10K!

I haven't had a chance to add a 10K to my race schedule this year, and I'm so glad that I got the opportunity to do the Snohomish River Run.  I really enjoyed it two years ago and what's even more awesome is that they've changed the course to start and finish in downtown Snohomish this year!  I'm guessing this will enable more spectators, easier parking and running over this bridge is part of the (still) beautiful course:

From the Snohomish River Run website:

Nearby in historic downtown Snohomish spectators and participants will find shopping, dining, music and relaxing strolls in and around the historic district. This Antique Capital of the Northwest also hosts over 30 tempting specialty shops, 25 restaurants and taverns, and 13 spas and salons…all in a fun and funky setting. Our event is spectator friendly and great way to spend the day with family and friends shopping and enjoying the beautiful town of Snohomish.

And, as in past years, all finishers (half marathon and 10K) receive awesome finisher medals, soft tech shirts and lots of yummy goodies post race, including a hot soup bar - which is awesome.  I know, I've been there.

Now that you have the details, get 10% off your registration with code: MRSHALLBERG2014 and come on out and run with me.  And register before August 31st before prices go up!

Disclosure: I was offered an entry to the race in exchange for getting the word out; although it is sponsored, all opinions are my own.

Time to Revisit 13.1 (and a Discount Code for the Snohomish Women's Run)

Well, I definitely have one of the items crossed off my March goals list!  I received an opportunity to participate in the inaugural Snohomish Women's Run on Sunday, May 18th and the timing couldn't have been better.  I've come to the point in my mileage buildup where I can pretty comfortably (albeit sloooowly) do 7-8 miles for my long run of the week and have what would be about 6-8 weeks left to prepare for a half if I continue on my current training.  I thought about the Kirland Half Marathon on Mother's Day, but I didn't relish the idea of returning to 13.1 after a year hiatus on such a killer course.  (Plus I'd really rather sleep in and go for a run later in the day on Mother's Day - just keepin' it real.)  The course for the Snohomish run has an elevation gain of 115 feet - this I can get behind.  It's the same route as the Snohomish River Run, also a great event.

running the inaugural Snohomish River Run 10K

What else is great?  It's limited to 500 participants, no crowding.  And there is a 10K option as well, which I think is always appreciated when you don't feel up for a half marathon but want a bit more of a challenge than a 5K.  If you register by April 25th, you get a personalized bib and all finishers (10K AND half) get this lovely medal:

There's also prize money for the top overall three women and even for the last finisher of each distance!  And check out these cute tees which we've been promised will be suuuper SOFT:

The charity partner is The Domestic Violence Services of Snohomish County, which is a private, non-profit organization serving Snohomish County since 1976. They are the only program in Snohomish County providing emergency shelter and comprehensive, confidential services to victims of domestic abuse without regard to age, gender, race, religion, culture, national origin, sexual orientation or income level. DVS provides individual and community awareness programs which can affect the social change necessary to eliminate domestic violence throughout Snohomish County.  Go here if you'd like to make a donation.

Now that you know the details, get 10% off your registration with code: MRSHALLBERG2014 and come on out and run (my first half in over a year) with me!

Disclosure: I was offered an entry to the race in exchange for getting the word out; although it is sponsored, all opinions are my own.

Blog and Oiselle Team Anniversary (Plus a Code for 10% Off and Free Shipping at Oiselle!)

Wow.  Two years.  Yet another year has flown by on my little corner of the internet.  I think that my post from one year ago still pretty much sums up my feelings about blogging.  I still enjoy it immensely.  I've delved a bit more into my other interests like cooking, reading, and talking about motherhood.  But the connections I make (with runners, or home cooks, or bookworms, or moms) remain the same.  And the blogiversary always coincides with my Oiselle anniversary: it was just two years ago that I got the email from Kristin inviting me to join the team.  And I am grateful, so grateful, for another wonderful year.  I don't have many more words, so I'll just take a look back with a few pictures...

Getting to know Lauren Fleshman the week of her baby shower!

Ahhh, huge Euge!

RAGNAR was so amazing. Can't wait to do it again!

Blogging (and Hot Chocolate) pretty much made this Chicago trip and team meetup a reality.  Amazing.

As well as making it possible to cap off the year running in, and visiting my dearest friends in, the city of my heart.

OK, if you've made it this far, thank you for indulging me in this little walk down memory lane.  And now for the GOODS: this year, in honor of the blog and Oiselle team anniversary, I've got a special discount code to share with y'all for 10% off AND free shipping (no minimum order) at Oiselle.com!  Just enter ANNIVERSARY at checkout.  This code is good Friday, March 21st through midnight PST on Sunday, March 23rd. I myself am eyeballing the new vertical drop tank or the very popular cross top mesh tank; maybe I'll just buy myself a little anniversary present.  Really, the possibilities are endless...

Happy shopping!

Mustache Dache Coupon Code

A few weeks ago, I mentioned that I'm running the Mustache Dache this year - yay!  I'm super pumped to run this race again, as they really put on a great event: it's on a Saturday (my favorite race day), it starts at 10am (extra sleep!), there's food trucks n' beer at the finish, and this year they're doing MEDALS.

photo_m
pretty sweet

It's also for a great cause - to learn more about Movember, check out the website

Another reason I'm chomping at the bit to run this race?  I haven't run a 5K since the Valentine's Day Dash in February, and I haven't run one healthy/injury free since my PR well over a year ago, last June in Fall City.  Hopefully, I can get in a good spot at the start line that isn't too crowded and snag the sub 25 minute PR I know I totally have in me.  We shall see...

In the meantime - you, too, should run the Mustache Dache!  And I have a code for $5 off your entry to sweeten the deal.  Use code: BARIC13 or just click on this link and it will auto populate the code for ya.  Hope to see you there!
